Help!!

I just got a '01 Rebel 250 that has just straight pipes coming all the way from the manifolds.I bought some aftermarket mufflers from JC whitney to keep Johnny Law happy. My question is: Do I need to cut off the pipes and bolt on the mufflers or do I just slide the mufflers on over the pipes? I didn't want to go crazy with my recip saw before I asked for some advice first.

Thank for the help, Keep the rubber side down!!

Question: Are these homemade straight pipes that go backwards beyond the passenger peg area or are they stock pipes that were cut into short drag pipes ?.....bottom line, trying to gauge how long they are......

Whether or not you've got to cut 'em, when you install the mufflers, hopefully they'll just slip over the ends of the header pipes tho' you may have to use reducers as spacers between mufflers & the O.D. of the pipes.....JC Whitney also sells the reducers or you can fab your own using 1/8" sheet metal strips, maybe 1"-2" wide.....It depends on what size the headers are. Stock headers are 1 3/8" O.D., many aftermarket mufflers are 1 1/2" I.D., which requires the 1/8" reducer for a snug fit. Once on, just clamp the mufflers to the headers & please make sure that you also use brackets to attach the mufflers to the frame to prevent an unsupported exhaust pipe weight issue that can snap exhaust flange mounting studs in short order....

They go all the way back to the rear tire, just like the stock pipes do, there just isn't a muffler on them. I got the reducers w/ the mufflers, so i don't think that will be an issue........:)

Thanks for the help!!
