I lost my only key & I need to get the ignition switch out to see if it has a key # on the back. :(
I have a 2004 250 Rebel.

From what I remember of the ignition switch on the 250, it was positioned in a place that made it susceptible to damage if the bike fell due to other parts above or around it.

In the diagram, the ignition switch housing should bolt onto the "fork top bridge", Part #11. Now, I don't know if the key # would be visible from the bottom of the ignition switch housing or not or if you'd have to remove the actual tumbler assembly from the topside..........Hopefully, someone who knows will chime in....but am pretty sure that access to the actual switch requires moving some other parts out of the way........sorry if this isn't much help.....Anyone ?

Edit: The copy & paste isn't cooperating. In the top window, you'll see the schematic for "Handlebars"...just click on that & it'll show the exploded view.....

The ignition switch has to be removed & the key number is under the plastic cover on the back.
to remove switch, take out 2 screws holding speedo panel & slide ignition switch out. remove 2 screws holding switch. remove plastic cover between forks to access wiring.
