96 gas tank

I need a new gas tank for my 96 rebel and was just curious if it has to be a 96 tank or if any tank can work.

You are pretty safe to use any gas tank from the late 80's through present on a '96 Rebel 250. Most parts are interchangable for those years, as the bike has not gone through any modifications from Honda.

The venting was in the gas cap for the '86 & '87 Rebels. The '96-->present Rebels have a vent tube that runs on the underside of the tank.

Steve's Salvage was selling new Chinese tanks pretty cheap, but that link is now down. the basic web site is http://www.stevescyclesalvage.com/
