I'm having a problem with shifting from 1st to 2nd gear, it's fine when the engine is cool, but after riding for a while and the engine warms up it seems to be overly stiff, I have to really pull it up hard for it to engage. Someone suggested that I should change the oil which I did, but it's still doing the same thing, any suggestions would be appreciated, anyone else had this problem?

I sometimes notice that problem as well. Any thoughts?

Below is a copy 'n paste from "Ole Ed" that was in another thread in the Introductions section. Definitely worth a try....some good info here.....GJ

**************

My 05 manual says 3/8 to 13/16 freeplay. Seems like a lota slop to me. I always just adjust it til I have complete throw-out and then make sure I have complete lock-up. Unless somethings way wrong it usually has complete lock-up then.
I was also having the sticky shifter thing. Simply remove the shifter and clean the bolt that it rides on really good with sandpaper and then do the inside of the shifter the same way, just to make sure its good and clean too, and grease it up really good with bearing grease and the sticky shifter will be a thing of the past. Mine was sticking in both up and down directions til I cleaned and greased it good. Shifts fine now.
And for those that advised me on the Nighthawk project, Thanx so very much. Its running perfectly now.

Ole Ed

P.S. Almost forgot-When you clean the shifter and grease it, clean and grease those knuckles that connect it to the shift shaft too.
