Hi all:

Has anyone else found the miimal ground clearance under an applied brake pedal a problem? I have found it very much limits right turns. Any fixs or "mods" for this issue?
I didn't find any info using search or reading posts on the site. I hope that I'm not the only one that has taken issue with this.

Cheers,

Tom and Teri

Have never had a problem with it or heard anyone else mention it, but respect that you've apparently found it to be problematic. You can change the "throw" of the rear brake pedal by loosening the bolt (Part # 16 in the below diagram) and re-positioning the brake pedal on the knurled mounting shaft (Part # 12). Just please try to insure that the knurling on both pedal & shaft line up groove-wise as best you can & check your brake pedal free-play as well as check that your rear brake light switch doesn't need adjustment afterwards. People frequently change the throw on the gear shift pedal to accommodate their personal needs, clearance for riding boot, comfort of angle, etc.

Thank you for the reply. After reading your thoughts on the this, I'm beginning to wonder if someone has had mine apart in the past and it isn't indexed correctly now. I have not ridden the bike all that much and have considerable "road rash" on the bottom of the pedal shaft. It forces you to back off the rear brake in a right hand turn. If that isn't the issue, I will probably look into some type of foreward controls with a different actuating system for the rear brake. Again, thank you for the reply.

I believe your theory is accurate......someone probably had removed the brake pedal at some point for whatever reason & didn't index it properly when re-installing. The scraping on the underside of the pedal pretty much confirms that.

Thought about this during the day & with the throw being that far forward, the actual brake rod adjustment/brake switch adjustment will more than likely have to be re-done once you've properly placed the brake pedal........provided the previous owner even had the rear brake properly adjusted to begin with, LOL!

I agree with Gear--
either it's been reindexed or bent...

I had the same problem with mine. It was the first thing to drag. As I recall it was pretty tight and the pedal came up above the peg. It was the arm under the bike that drug. Every time you tighten your belt don't forget to adjust the brake.

To wrap this up, the brake was way out of adjustment. Works fine now. The only thing I can say to save face a bit is I haven't had a bike with a mechanical rear brake in quite a while. Oh well. Thank you all for the input. tom

No worries.......you're not responsible for something the previous owner had done. They may have removed the rear wheel at some point & gotten sloppy when hooking everything back up...........But you've set it back to rights & that's great!
