86' 450CMX is having some problems will not start. Tested spark at plugs an there is spark then there is no spark engine will attempt to start when there is spark and will die right after that.


Also the battery will not maintain a charge...

I don't know alot about the 450 reb but you could try checking voltage at the alternator/generator of equivelent.
also check the kill switch connections, condition of the switch itself.

It could be one, two or three different problems, but I'd start with the battery. How old is the battery ? For a conventional bike battery, 3 yrs. might be stretching it, so if it's around that age or older, it's probably time for a new one.

Intermittent spark at the plugs might either be a bad coil or a defective CDI that's not sending the proper signal to the coil.

Again, if your battery needs replacement, you might find yourself in much better shape all the way around, so I'd start there.....
