Ok CTC, I'll be honest with you, I'm a newbie...so I have heard that some of these helmets are not DOT approved. Word has it here in MI that they are sticklers on cycle safety, as they should be. Are these helmets ok for me to use in MI? Just curious. Sorry if I sound lame!

To be honest, I'm not sure, But all I have ever worn are NON - DOT helmets. and if I can get by with it, I dont wear one in myrtle beach and panama city. I have never had an office check my helmet. But that dosent mean that tomorrow they might.

Paint some flames on it and you have a deal. Actually I'm looking for the same style helmet with a rebel flag on it, any ideas?

The helmets I paint are not near as cheap as the unpainted ones.

I can not answer your question about what the law of MI requires. But I will say that if you are concerned about riding as safely as possible, you should give serious consideration to a full face helmet. This is especially advisable for a new rider since there is a greater possibility of a fall. From what I have heard, statistics show that many motorcycle accidents involve falling in a way that effects the rider's face and chin. Obviously, you can do whatever you want, but a full face is the best protection you can get for a part of your body that does not respond well to sliding along pavement even at 20mph.
