Hi,
Just bought a 06' Rebel 250. The bike didn't come with its manual so I'm ordering one through local dealer. In the meantime, I would like to lower the ride height on the bike. I see that the current setting on both sides of the rear suspension is set to "5" but I cannot seem to figure out how to change them and I sure don't want to use brute force to do it (unless that's what's required). How do I change the setting?? Any special tools required?? Help!!!

If you look under the battery you will see a place that you can insert your ignition key into. Do that and twist it in the direction the arrow is pointin til it stops. Now pull downward and out on the cap and youll find your tool kit. In the tool kit is a spanner wrench. It is the weird lookin thing kinda like a crooked y. You use it to turn the adjustment ring to the wanted setting.

Oh yeah.... Dont go right from 5 to the 1 setting as doin so may cause damage to the unit. At least thats what the manual says anyways.

ole Ed has ya covered on the adjustment. If that shock adjusting tool isn't there, you can indeed muscle the shroud to turn......one click at a time, as ole Ed mentioned.
But the setting of 5 is also the stiffest setting, which would also be the lowest setting heigth-wise as well....

Yeah.. I believe my manual says go from 5-4-3-2-1.. not directly from 5-1, as it can really mess things up. ole Ed is right on the money!

No offense... But lowering a Rebel will prolly scrape the white lines off the road. You'll be able to ride past the toll booth without being seen!

Thanx much for your valuable inputs.
This is actually wife's bike so she needs it in a lower setting. However, if 5 is already the lowest it can go she can & will have to live with that.
The only tool I found in the tool compartment (right below the right side of the plastic side cover as opposed to the left side where the battery is) is a cheap-looking screw driver in vinyl pouch so so much for the spanner wrench....

5 is the stiffest preload.
The factory standard is 2.
Try that for a starter. The 2006 only had a screwdriver for a tool kit.
Most folks can move the shocks with a chamois or such.
(or a rag and an pipe wrench)
good luck,
John
